About Wolfgang Gangkofner
Wolfgang Gangkofner began studying composition at the age of 16 at the Hochschule für Musik und Theater in Munich. After graduating from high school, he continued his studies in composition in Munich and studied piano at the same time. After completing his artistic diploma in both subjects and master class diploma in composition, his path led him to the Royal Academy of Music in Stockholm in 2005, where he graduated in 2007. His most important teachers were Dieter Acker in composition, Claude-France Journès in piano, Friedemann Berger, Staffan Scheja, Stefan Bojsten and his first teacher Christoph Bachmaier.
Gangkofner has been a sought-after teacher for several years. From 2008 to 2012 he taught classical piano at the Eskilstuna Music School in Sweden. Since 2013 he has been teaching in Berlin and Potsdam. He also works as a freelance pianist and composer. As a pianist he is mainly engaged in large-scale and intellectual music, such as sonatas or cyclic works. Stylistic accuracy and a well-structured and transparent piano sound are particularly close to his heart. In addition to the great established piano literature, he likes to deal with lesser known works. He is also interested in atonal music, which requires an analytical ear, pianistic skill and a sense for unusual sounds.
