The accordionist Roman Yusipey was born in Ukraine in 1979. He studied at the National Academy of Music in Kiev with Prof. Nikolay Davydov (1998-2006), the Hanover University of Music, Drama and Media with Prof. Elsbeth Moser (2009-2012) and at the Folkwang University of the Arts in Essen with Prof. Mie Miki (2013-2016). Since 2016 he has been studying at the Hochschule für Musik und Tanz Köln (concert exam) with Edwin Alexander Buchholz.
Roman Yusipey is the second prize winner of the international competition Golden Accordion 2001 in New York. In 2003 he won the 1st place of the international competition Premio di Montese, in Italy. He is a scholarship holder of the Yehudi Menuhin Foundation "Live Music Now" (since 2014) and "Lions Club Essen-Werethina" (2014-2015).
Roman Yusipey gave concerts not only in Germany and Ukraine. He also gave concerts in France, Poland, Netherlands, Belgium, Lithuania, Switzerland, Kazakhstan, Malta, Italy and in Japan. In 2013 he was invited as a guest professor by the Kazakh National Conservatory in Almaty. In 2015 he recorded a CD "For every city - Ukrainian music of the 21st century for accordion".
As a soloist Roman Yusipey gave over 60 concerts with chamber and symphony orchestras conducted by Roman Kofman, Raymond Jannsen, Bogodar Kotorovich, Vladimir Sirenko, Gungard Mattes, Valery Matiuhin. In active cooperation with numerous contemporary composers, such as Sofia Gubaidulina, Arvo Pärt, Gia Kantschelli, Victoria Poleva, Dmitri Kourliandski, Oleksandr Schetynskyj, he was the interpreter of the world premieres of their works.
Besides, Roman Yusipey is actively involved in international festivals. He has also conceived many concert projects of his own: ONLY YOUsipey (music of genre paradoxes), Seven Tango (music of Astor Piazzolla), De Profundius (works of Sofia Gubaidulina), Extremes with accordion and bayan with all variables. Since 2002 he works columnist for feature pages of Ukrainian and Russian press.
